Should I be freaked or flattered?
Yesterday, I received an email from “Lucia”:
“A,
Okay, so you might be wondering, who the fuck is this girl and why is she talking to me, but hear me out.
I stumbled across your Tumblr a while ago. I think it was through the site’s Radar way back when or maybe it was when I searched for “Stanford” since there was a time when I would die to go to your school. In any case, I found you and I’m glad that I did. Now, I might sound like a huge creeper for saying that, but c’mon, keep reading for a few more lines.
You’re a complete stranger to me and I to you, but there was something about the way that you write that just drew me in. I have a Tumblr as well, but I always catch myself falling into a trap where I write something meaningful but then undercut it with a sarcastic comment. It just really freaks me out showing others how I really feel. So, in the end, I just fall back on cheap punch-lines. You, on the other hand, you are great at telling others what you think and believe. You’re not afraid to let others look into you and attempt to understand who you are. I admire you for that. I like that because a few times, I have felt the same way that you have. I’ve worried about the same things that you have worried about and I’ve been angry in the same ways as well. I don’t know if you’ve ever felt this way, but to me, it’s kind of exciting knowing that you’re not alone.
So, Andrew. I might be a year younger than you and I might live thousands of miles away, but here’s some advice from a stupid little girl. Keep writing about the shit you care about since chances are, someone out there will care about the same things as you and will love you for that.
Regards,
L
p.s. I guess the con of writing so many personal things online is that it makes it easy as heck for creeps like me to find you. Also, don’t bother writing a reply. I made this email account for the sole purpose of contacting just you. And if you haven’t already, start listening to The xx. They’re one of my favorite bands and while I don’t know if you’d dig them, they’re special to me.”
I can’t tell if this is real or fake.
